- The instantly recognizable seven dazzling
dancing notes, played by the soloist, is what this movement is all
about. Instant recognition, a dazzling display of French Horn players'
capabilities. "Purerism" in many moods and tempos. Contrasts in
dynamics, registers all in a very persistent time signature of
one/fourth (1/4).
- "ROMANCE". A gentle melody of a sweet memory.
Two sequential half/notes is what makes this movement so persistently
beautiful.
- "THE SPIDER-WEB" The F/H representing the
SPIDER. The Piccolo is the spiders first string of the web. Every time
a instrument enters it represents another web string. It enters in
"mp" and then goes to "pp." The "FF" represents the spider holding on
to his web as strong winds are blowing through the web! The F/H solo
is the spider running away from the wind and web. Ending the movements
with the F/H and the piccolo. All that remains is the spider and his
first string.
- "MEMOIRS OF SELF DESTRUCTION". This movement
is an excerpt from "SELF DESTRUCTION BLVD." For F/H and one Percussion
player. This movement is wild, taxing, energetic and exhaustively
submissive, and pages where the F/H player plays in regular strict
time, while the perc. player plays AD/LIB. with as many as 10 drums.
SCORES
- This movement was a challenge for the composer,
and will be for the soloist, orchestra and the listeners. As the
soloist and orchestra never play simultaneously. The excitement in
this type or structure is always great. Whether the soloist and orch.
only play one note after each other, or a complete bar after each
other.
